Square Enix is officially bringing back one of its most beloved tactical RPGs. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles launches September 30, 2025, across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and both generations of the Nintendo Switch.
This version keeps everything fans loved about the original 1997 classic—from the deep political story to the flexible job system—but adds modern updates. Here, we’re talking a redesigned UI, sharper HD visuals, new difficulty options, and even full English and Japanese voice acting.
There’s also a new Tactical View system to help you better read the battlefield, and you can now speed up battles to skip through easy encounters or test loadouts faster. The team behind this update includes veterans from the original game and new talent.
If you want to play it like it’s 1997 again, the game also includes a “Classic” mode with retro visuals and the original gameplay style, but now with auto-save.

Preorders are open now (for Xbox Series X|S, PS5 & PS4, and Steam)for the Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s Box editions. You can also enjoy in-game bonuses for Ramza, plus physical goodies like a Ramza figure and a Chocobo plush for collectors.
