Microsoft is giving Clipchamp users a faster way to cut down video content, and it starts with the transcript. In a quiet but meaningful update, announced via a Tech Community post, the company confirmed that users can now edit videos by simply deleting parts of the transcript. You don’t have to scrub through timelines.
The feature uses AI to transcribe spoken dialogue in your video. Once the transcript appears, you just highlight and delete any unwanted lines of text. Next, Clipchamp will cut those corresponding sections out of the video. It’s a big change for anyone dealing with long-form footage like webinars, podcasts, or meeting recordings.
Editing without the timeline
Let’s say there’s an awkward silence during a team call or a Q&A section that drags a little too long. Instead of clicking around the timeline to make cuts, you can just select that portion in the transcript and hit delete. It works well for cleaning up:
- Off-topic conversations in meeting recordings
- Filler or stumbles in podcast episodes
- Long explanations in a presentation
The new workflow lives under the “Transcript” tab in the editor, which is replacing the old “Captions” tab. You can still generate and edit closed captions by going to the menu above the video stage and choosing “Transcribe media.”
According to Microsoft’s post, the transcript-based editing tool is rolling out to Clipchamp for work users starting June 2025. Personal users will get access “soon,” but there’s no date announced just yet.
